INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — The Alzheimer and Parkinson Association of Indian River County will host the 12th Annual Walk to Remember on Saturday, Nov. 14 at Riverside Park from 6:30 to 11:30 a.m. to support programs serving clients, caregivers and families in the community living with neurodegenerative disorders like Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases.
“We’re excited to be adding a 5K run before the traditional walk in expanding this year’s event,” said event co-chairs Tiffany Tripson, Elizabeth White and Dyan Kurth. “The run is being timed and certified in partnership with Mike Melton’s MCM Timing and Results, and we appreciate the hundreds of people that come out to support our annual walk every year.”
There are a number of ways to participate. Local businesses can sponsor the event or encourage their employees to form a team, neighbors and friends can form teams, and individuals are welcome. Sponsorship opportunities start at $150. Teams and individuals do their own fundraising with a suggested donation of $25 per team member. Creative fundraising ideas are provided to team captains, and groups are encouraged to show their “team spirit” by creating their own t-shirts. For detailed sponsorship information and a team captain guide, visit www.alzpark.org.
Registration for the 5K run begins at 6:30 a.m. with a 7:30 a.m. start. The entry fee is $25 before Nov. 10, and $30 afterwards. Runners will receive the official event shirt and can pick up their informational packets on Nov. 12 and 13 from 12 to 6 p.m. at the Center for Memory and Motion, 2300 5TH Avenue, Suite 150.
Walk to Remember registration begins at 8 a.m., and at 8:30 a.m. John Sammartano of JAS Fitness will lead all walkers in a lively group warm-up before the official 9 a.m. start. This is a family friendly event that features children’s activities including games, arts and crafts.
The top three Walk to Remember fundraising teams and the team with the most members will be recognized that day, and an award for the most “Team Spirit” will be presented.
The registration deadline is Nov. 10. To register, visit www.alzpark.org.
