FELLSMERE — Drag racing in Fellsmere continues despite the Fellsmere Police Department’s efforts to stop it – and this time, it resulted in the death of a dog, according to authorities.
Thursday, around 2:47 p.m., two “low rider” pick-up trucks were seen by a witness as they traveled side by side, north on S. Cypress Street, according to police. They were described by the witness as primer gray and blue in color and were racing each other.
Neither vehicle stopped in time to avoid striking a dog in the road in the 140 block of S. Cypress Street, police said. The dog, described as a miniature pincher, was killed instantly.
The dog was recovered by an animal control officer and its owner has yet to be identified, according to the report.
