VERO BEACH — Main Street Vero Beach presents Hibiscus Festival 2012 on April 13 and 14. The Miss Hibiscus Pageant is scheduled for April 13 at 7 p.m. at The Vero Beach Heritage Center at 2140 14th Ave.
The 5K Race starts the April 14 events at 7 a.m. Runners and walkers can sign up online at Active.com until April 13. Day of the race registration begins at 6 a.m. near the start line at City of Vero Beach Airport. The finish line is in Downtown Vero Beach at the Historical Society Train Station.
Downtown Vero Beach on 14th Ave. from 20th St. to 23rd St. is the site of the Marketplace Booths, Juried Fine Art Show and Food Vendors. Festival goers will be entertained by live music all day long in the Art Show and Marketplace.
There will be free activities for children to celebrate Earth Day in cooperation with several organizations, including the U.S Fish & Wildlife Service. Kids can see wildlife, paint with fish, create art from recycled materials and begin a vegetable garden. There will be bounce houses, an inflatable slide, face painting and a train ride for a nominal fee.
Main Stage entertainment begins at 4 p.m. with Twenty One Hearts-One Beat from Miami Country Day School. The free Street and Dance Party continues from 5:30-8:30 p.m. with the Gypsy Lane Band. The band will entertain with a wide variety of music from Caribbean, Reggae, Motown, Soul and R & B.

This annual event draws 10,000 plus people to the Downtown Vero Beach area for the day and is a fundraiser for Main Street Vero Beach. Money raised will go to Downtown Beautification and Economic Revitalization projects.
