Evelyn Ann Lopes, 92, Vero Beach

May 11, 1933 – August 26, 2025
Evelyn Lopes, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on Tuesday morning, August 26th surrounded by her loving family. She was 92 years old.

Born and raised in New York City, Evelyn later moved to Bergenfield, New Jersey, where she and her husband Angelo “Junie” Lopes raised their family. They then retired to Vero Beach more than 40 years ago, creating a vibrant community surrounded by friends and loved ones.

Evelyn was the proud matriarch of her family. In true Italian grandmother fashion, she centered everything around food, togetherness, and love. She passed down her passion for cooking Sunday family dinners, a tradition that continues to live on through her children and grandchildren. She delighted in their accomplishments and took immense pride in each of them.

She is survived by her sons: Gary (Michele) Lopes, Wayne Lopes, and Craig Lopes; daughters: Keri (Bob) Chettum and Amy (John) Serovich; and grandchildren: Kara, Jared, Cayla, Haley, and Corey Lopes, Jillian and Trevor Lopes and Alissa, Brielle and John Christian Serovich. Evelyn will also be missed by her four great-grandchildren: Jace, Alexander, and Ryland Moore; and Gabriella Lopes, and extended family.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Angelo Lopes, granddaughter Megan Alissa Lopes, and daughters-in-law Cynthia Lopes and Sylvie Degiez.

A Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, September 9, 2025 at 10:00 am at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Vero Beach, Florida.

April 20, 1947 – August 23, 2025

Burton “Tony” G. Tremaine III of Vero Beach, Florida died peacefully in his sleep on August 22, 2025. He was 78 years old. Tony’s greatest joy in life was his family. He is lovingly survived by his wife of 54 years, Barbara Jean “Babs” Staley Tremaine; his children, Burton Tyler Tremaine (Michelle); Whitney Tremaine O’Brien (William); and by his grandchildren, Bennett, Berkley, Ellery and Gad who were the pride of his life. He also leaves his identical twin brother, John McGean Tremaine (Patsy); sisters, Janet Tremaine Stanley (Peter), and Sarah Tremaine; Stepmother, Catherine Burns Tremaine; stepbrother, Atwood Collins (Cindy); and many cousins, nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews.

Tony was born in Cleveland, Ohio, on April 20, 1947, the son of Burton G. Tremaine Jr. and Sally Ann McGean Tremaine. He attended Renbrook, Eaglebrook, and Salisbury Schools before graduating from Rollins College in 1970. Tony spent his summers on Fishers Island where his love of the sea, community and his friendships have endured across decades.

In 1967, he crewed on the American Eagle 12-meter yacht in the America’s Cup trials, one of many highlights in a lifelong passion for sailing. He was a proud member of the New York Yacht Club, where he competed in two Newport to Bermuda races, as well as the Fishers Island and Essex Yacht Clubs. His enthusiasm for activity also extended to golf, travel, skiing at Stratton Mountain, and the camaraderie of the Fishers Island and Johns Island Clubs. He was rarely without a dog at his side and treated each one like canine royalty.

Professionally, Tony spent more than three decades at The Miller Company in Meriden, Connecticut, from 1970 to 2000, when he retired as president.  Additionally, Tony served for 48 years as an active board member of Meteor Crater Enterprises and Bar T Bar Ranch in northern Arizona.

An equally strong commitment to philanthropy matched his business life.  Tony was a founding director of the Emily Hall Tremaine Foundation, where he served as its Chair from 2001 to 2004. During his 30 years of involvement with the Tremaine Foundation he helped pioneer research that advanced public understanding of learning differences and neuroscience, contributing to national progress in literacy education. In Vero Beach, he supported a wide range of community causes, including Childcare Resources, the Boys and Girls Club of Indian River County, Indian River Medical Center, Riverside Theatre, Youth Sailing Foundation, and the Vero Beach Dog Park/Dogs for Life.

Friends and colleagues describe Tony as “larger than life—a brilliant thinker, all about family, always.” He was known for his humor, strong opinions, generosity and deep joy in even the simple pleasures in life. His presence lifted others and his close friendships spanned generations.

Tony lived a life of purpose, adventure, and devotion. His love for family, his commitment to community, and his zest for friendship will live on in the stories and memories he leaves behind.

A celebration of his life will be held in Vero Beach on October 4th with an additional gathering planned on Fishers Island next year.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in his memory to The Learning Alliance of Florida, a cause close to his heart.

Donald Paul Taylor, 82, Vero Beach

September 20, 1942 – August 21, 2025

Donald Paul Taylor, aged 82, of Vero Beach, Florida, passed away peacefully on August 21, 2025, with his family present.

He was born September 20, 1942, in Cincinnati, Ohio. He was the son to Phyllis Jeanne Pugsley Taylor and Kyle Mayfield Taylor.

Don graduated among Lakota High School’s First Class of 1960, in West Chester, Ohio. Don was inducted into Lakota’s Hall of Fame, having achieved 11 Varsity letters in 5 sports. Amazingly, Don still holds high school and district records, 65 years later. He then went to Wilmington College to play football.

He met Patricia Gorman in High School at the age of 15. They married 4 years later and built a beautiful marriage, lasting 63 years. Don and Patti were the proud parents of two girls, Julia Lynne (d. 1985) and Tracy Taylor Wheeler (Stephen). Their 3 grandchildren were Don’s greatest pride, having traveled all over the country to cheer for them in their respective sporting events or graduations. Gordon (26), Grady (24), and Ellie (24) were all able to share their love for their Papa the day of his passing. Their words certainly gave him the peace he needed to go to Heaven.

Don worked as an owner and sales representative for National Printing Ink, which then was sold to Horstmann-Steinberg.

He loved all sports and excelled at each of them. Having found golf later in life, he created many new friendships that then led to the creation of his last and most important job, as a linesman for Coastal Carolina Football, as one of the Chain Gang. This group of men loved being around the younger players and helping the team. His other friends “The Grouches” met every Tuesday for lunch in Surfside Beach, South Carolina. Don’s other special interest was music. He especially loved Motown music, and that love of music translated to another sport, dancing. With any tune, he genuinely felt the beat, strings, and sounds to his core. Don and Patti were even featured on the long running TV show Bob Braun, in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Don was a member of the Moose, the Elks, and was a member of the Gobler Fraternity at Wilmington College.

He connected with many people, that was his gift. Don showed respect to all persons, even so far as to stand when anyone entered a room. He developed both friendships that lasted his entire life, as well as friendships that were newly created. When he loved someone, he always made sure to tell them.

Remaining to cherish Don Taylor are his wife, Patti, his daughter, Tracy (and spouse, Steve), and his grandchildren Gordon, Grady, and Ellie Wheeler. He is also survived by: niece Missy (Bruce) Cupp; niece Andree (Richard) Taylor; nephew Kyle (Suzette) Taylor; sister-in-law Beverly Taylor; and special cousins Roger (Lilla) Taylor and Jeffrey (Maxine) Engler. He is remembered by many close friends from Cincinnati, Louisville, South Carolina, and Vero Beach, many of whom traveled the world with Don and Patti on their many adventures.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Dr. Phil Taylor; parents; and daughter, Juli, as well as special friends: Quimby Roberts and Dan Ostendorf.

Visitation will be held at a later date. Interment will be in Spring Grove Cemetery, Cincinnati, Ohio.
