INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — Safety is the number-one priority for Florida City Gas, so the company is monitoring coverage related to Zika virus in south Florida. To minimize the risk of exposure to the virus and to help ensure that Florida City Gas employees have safe access to areas around customers’ homes and businesses, the company is sharing the following information with customers from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
• Get rid of sources of standing water (e.g., tires, buckets, cans, bottles, barrels, kiddie pools) whenever possible to reduce or eliminate areas where mosquitoes can lay eggs.
• Wear clothing that covers hands, arms, legs and other exposed skin when outside.
• Tightly cover water storage containers (buckets, cisterns, rain barrels) so that mosquitoes cannot get inside to lay eggs.
• Make sure door and window screens fit tightly and repair any holes.
Please Note: Standing water where mosquitoes are observed may prevent or delay Florida City Gas employees from conducting work.
