Victim identified in pontoon-capsize tragedy

SEBASTIAN INLET — The man who died Sunday after a pontoon boat capsized near the Sebastian Inlet has been identified.

The victim has been identified 70-year-old Stephen Graga, according to Florida Wildlife Commission spokesman Chad Weber.

Authorities have not released the identities of the other three boaters who were plucked from the water. One of them who had been taken to the hospital was sent there for evaluation purposes only, according to FWC.

According to authorities, Graga became entangled under the 18-foot pontoon boat, which capsized around 11 a.m.

Along with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation, personnel from the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office’s marine and air units assisted, as did the U.S. Coast Guard.

Boaters in the area reported they saw the pontoon boat overturn and they attempted to provide assistance. They said the water was rough at the time the boat capsized.

The cause of the boating accident and the boater’s death remain under investigation.
