Mary Ellen Davies, 78, of Vero Beach, formerly of Sardinia, N.Y., passed away on July 23, 2014.
“Meme,” as she was lovingly called by her family, is survived by her sisters Marjorie (Rex) Clouston and Nancy Morgan; brother Cilfford (Marcia) Davies; nine nieces and nephews; 24 great-nieces and nephews; seven great-great-nieces and nephews; dear friend Alice Banker; and many cousins.
Davies was born on Feb. 11, 1936, in Salamanca. She was the eldest daughter of Lloyd and Ellen Myrick Davies of Freedom, N.Y., then Vero Beach.
She was a 1953 graduate of Arcade Central School and a 1957 graduate of Taylor University. She attended many different colleges and universities while working on her Masters and Doctorate in Education.
During her life she was a missionary teacher in Mexico through Wycliffe, a teacher in Holland, N.Y., Sebastian, and Vero Beach, and a Christian school administrator in Vero Beach. She was also a guidance counselor in Holland, N.Y. and school board member for Pioneer Central in Yorkshire.
Davies was a devout Christian but didn’t wear her faith on her sleeve. She lived her faith. She was an avid reader, enjoyed traveling, photography, cooking, gardening, and collecting angels from her travels around the world. She spent a great deal of time helping challenged students and adults improve their reading and math skills.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Sept. 13, at 11 a.m., at Hope Lutheran Church, 4 East Main St., Arcade, N.Y. A burial will follow in the Freedom Cemetery, Freedom, N.Y.
